ATF2 (activating transcription factor 2)

چکیده
Other names: CREB1, CRE-BP1, CREB2, CREBP1, HB16, MGC111558, TREB7 HGNC (Hugo): ATF2 Location: 2q31.1 Note ATF2 (2q31.1) is sometimes confused with CREB1 (2q33.3), because an alias of ATF2 is CREB1, also because they are both CREB-related proteins, a family of transcription factors of the bZIP superfamily, whose members have the ability to heterodimerize with each other, and, finally, because CREB1, like ATF1 (but not ATF2 so far), is a fusion partner of EWSR1 in various soft tissue tumors (clear cell sarcoma of the soft tissue, angiomatoid fibrous histiocytoma) harboring a t(2;22)(q33;q12) or a t(12;22)(q13;q12) respectively (review in Huret, 2010).

Suppressor role of activating transcription factor 2 (ATF2) in skin cancer.
Activating transcription factor 2 (ATF2) regulates transcription in response to stress and growth factor stimuli. Here, we use a mouse model in which ATF2 was selectively deleted in keratinocytes. Crossing the conditionally expressed ATF2 mutant with K14-Cre mice (K14.ATF2(f/f)) resulted in selective expression of mutant ATF2 within the basal layer of the epidermis. When subjected to a two-stag...
متن کاملIdentification of human myometrial target genes of the c-Jun NH2-terminal kinase (JNK) pathway: the role of activating transcription factor 2 (ATF2) and a novel spliced isoform ATF2-small.
Activating transcription factor 2 (ATF2), a ubiquitously expressed member of the basic region leucine zipper (bZIP) family of transcription factors activated by mitogen activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathways, is important in the mediation of cellular stress responses, development and transformation. We have previously reported the differential expression of active ATF2 in the human myometrium...
متن کاملActivating transcription factor 2 (ATF2) down-regulates hepatitis B virus X promoter activity by the competition for the activating protein 1 binding site and the formation of the ATF2-Jun heterodimer.
The hepatitis B viral X promoter is known to be positively autoregulated by its own HBx protein, which also interacts with many cellular regulatory proteins. We investigated the effect of activating transcription factor 2 (ATF2) on the activity of the X promoter. Cotransfection of the ATF2 expression vector with a X promoter-chloramphenicol acetyltransferase plasmid repressed the X promoter act...
متن کاملTranscriptional switch by activating transcription factor 2-derived peptide sensitizes melanoma cells to apoptosis and inhibits their tumorigenicity.
The notorious resistance of melanoma cells to drug treatment can be overcome by expression of a 50-aa peptide derived from activating transcription factor 2 (ATF2(50-100)). Here we demonstrate that ATF2(50-100) induced apoptosis by sequestering ATF2 to the cytoplasm, thereby inhibiting its transcriptional activities. Furthermore, ATF2(50-100) binds to c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) and increases...
متن کاملATF2 is required for amino acid-regulated transcription by orchestrating specific histone acetylation
The transcriptional activation of CHOP (a CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein-related gene) by amino acid deprivation involves the activating transcription factor 2 (ATF2) and the activating transcription factor 4 (ATF4) binding the amino acid response element (AARE) within the promoter. Using a chromatin immunoprecipitation approach, we report that in vivo binding of phospho-ATF2 and ATF4 to CHOP A...
متن کاملSubcellular localization of activating transcription factor 2 in melanoma specimens predicts patient survival.
The transcription factor activating transcription factor 2 (ATF2) has been shown to be associated with melanocytic oncogenesis and melanoma tumor proliferation in preclinical models. The clinical significance of ATF2 expression is unknown. To determine the prognostic value of ATF2 in melanoma, we evaluated the pattern and level of ATF2 expression in a large cohort of melanoma specimens. Immunoh...
